Eventcon is an app that focuses on nearby event recommandation for individual users and event publishing for business users. Eventify aims for increasing community involving and helping small business owners.

Competitive Analysis

At the begining of the project, a competitive analysis was conducted to understand strengths and weakness of other similar products in the market. After the analysis, I decided the main features of Eventcon to be active event recommendation system and allowing users publish their own events easily.

Workflow Sketching

Sketching of workflows of alternative approaches to event information gathering. By thinking about and sketching out the workflow of each approach, I was able to understanding the limitations and advantages of each approach and to avoid the limitations and take the advantages in my approach.

Persona

Persona is a key step to understand target audiences and their needs. Due to the limitation of the course, I wasn't be able to construct personas based on user research data. However, I gathered some information from people around me who have the need for local event information and create the personas based on the information. This persona construction process makes me start treating my target audiences as live humans thus understanding more of their needs.

Storymap

Detailed step-by-step analysis of the task user will perform. By listing all the detailed actions user needs to do throughout the task and the alternative actions, I was able to discover more possible needs of users and integrate them in my design. For exmaple, during the storymap I realize that users need to check the weather before they go out for the event so that I include the weather information in event page.

QOC Analysis

Questions, Options, Criteria Analysis to reach a rational design decisions. By matching alternative options to various criteria and making comparison, I was able to understand the design options and their trade-offs and make principled decisions about which design options to adopt.

Paper Prototype

Creating and testing paper prototype is essential before moving to digital prototype. An wizard of oz interaction-enabled paper prototype can test usability of the product without animation thus requiring a more logical interaction design. Paper prototype is both easy and hard to create. It's easy because as long as there is pen and paper the creation and iteration process can begin. It's hard because drawing some shape is harder than just select and drag on computer, but this pen-touching-paper experience slows down the process and gives mind more time to think deeper about everything being drawn.

Digital Prototype

It finally comes to the interactive digital prototype. This prototype was created using Sketch and Invision, and successfully displayed basically all the core functions of the product. UI and interaciton style generally follows iOS guideline and are ready to be implemented. Despite having some limitations, Invision is a pretty handy interaction prototype tool.
